Other projects

BEN Namibia is involved in a number of other projects that aim to improve mobility for disadvantaged Namibians. These include:

Research into the impact of transport on access to healthcare. A report by BEN Namibia to be released in May 2008 focuses on how transport affects the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. The report will be available from BEN Nambia's website when it is released.

Bicycles for HIV/AIDS home based care volunteers. In many cases we receive requests for small numbers of bicycles to enable volunteers to travel greater distances more quickly and spend more time with their clients.

Bicycle advocacy. We are in dialogue with the City of Windhoek and Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication about plans to improve conditions for cycling in the City of Windhoek.

Bicycle sales to the general public. To help pay our running costs, BEN Namibia retails bicycles to the general public from our warehouse in Windhoek.

Bicycle trailer. We hope to have a final design later this year. A number of prototypes are currently out in the field, in use by our partners. We will use information from their experiences to help us improve the current design and then enter production. The trailer will be able to carry water, large grain sacks and firewood, and in an emergency, a person.
