100 Ilingelethu scholars received their bicycles on 17th October 2019 on the Qhubeka “Learn to Earn” programme and a further 20 bicycles went to community safety volunteers in the community. Bicycles were funded by Spar and Team Dimension Data. Proudly partnered with Qhubeka Charity, Pedal Power Association and Bike4All.
30 September 2019 – School holidays are meant to be fun, so we headed off to the Weltevreden Community Center in Mitchell’s Plain for some cycling fun! Together with Coot B Community Watch and our BEC, Vyvan Bean from Mr B’s Bikes, we conducted a safe cycling school holiday program with at least 100 children from the community. Such well behaved children who enjoyed every minute of the training and cycling. Special thanks to Dragon Sports for the donation of Avalanche cycling gloves and to Cape Town Cycle Tour for the water bottles. The children were beyond excited to receive your donations. Well done to Coot B Community Watch for helping keep the community safe. Thanks to everyone for a great event.
We are delighted to announce that SUGA, Host of Heart FM afternoon Drive 326 and qualified chef, will be our MC at our BEN Auction taking place on 29th February 2020. SUGA is also passionate about cycling and in training for her 1st CT Cycle Tour next year.
We would like to share a little more about SUGA.
SUGA | PROFILE
What do radio and cooking have in common? Nothing really, but Suga attests to the fact that the ingredients to her success lies in a tried and tested recipe of hard work and determination. Not one rest on her laurels, SUGA is constantly reinventing herself as she goes through life as a mother, media personality and qualified Chef.
SUGA has made a name for herself as a pioneer for female radio personalities, having been one of the first female presenters in South African broadcast history, to host her own Drive show back in the early 2000’s. Over the past twenty-one years she has paved the way for so many aspiring female presenters along the way and continues to push the envelope on a daily basis.
This phenomenal femme fatale is dynamite; as small as she is, she packs a punch! Her afternoon drive show is filled with exciting content; from the entertainment world, to serious topics that are on people’s minds. Her unmistakeable voice and infectious laughter are guaranteed to keep listeners tuned in and engaged.
THANK YOU SUGA for agreeing to be MC for our Auction.

On 2nd August 2019, we carried out our “Mandela Day Lavender Hill BMX Landscape” project. The project was put on hold due to unrest in the area. 30 Lavender Hill learners enthusiastically came and helped plant the indigenous plants which were kindly donated by Ferndale Nurseries in Constantia. It was a fun filled hour with lots of digging and planting. We look forward to distributing Bike4All BMX’s in the near future. Thanks also to Mrs Stain and her learners from Lavender Hill High for diligently cleaning up the weeds as well as assisting with planting. Also to Goodhope Tyres Bergvliet for the old tyres, Onspaarmark for the paint, Pinelands Hardware for the paint brushes and to Afriserv Pty Ltd for the soil provided. We look forward to seeing your garden flourish!
We would like to continue building up the landscape, so if you have any plants or soil to add to this project it would be greatly appreciated. Contact sue@benbikes.org.za.
