World Bicycle Day – 3 June 2018

To celebrate World Bicycle Day 2018, Open Streets joined forces with Cape Town Bicycle Mayor, Lebogang Mokwena, and partners – Bicycling Empowerment Network, Pedal Power Association and Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy – for a day of awareness-raising and collaborative learning.  Event was held at Isivivana Centre in Khayelitsha.

Field Trip – Future Legends of Africa in Ocean View – 15 May 2018

Field trip on the Kommetjie Corridor. 3rd Stop – Future Legends of Africa in Ocean View, run by James Esterhuizen. James’s business is currently undergoing a revamp due to the generous funding from our Donor Annette from Swizerland. James is well known in his community for his bicycle sales, bicycle mechanics and community service. For bike sales & bicycle mechanics contact James on 0761822430. Future Legents of Africa is located at Ocean View High School, Hydra Road, Ocean View.THANK YOU to Annette from Swizerland for her ongoing support on the Kommetjie Corridor. We look forward to sending you pictures of James’s completed revamp . James is also in the process of having a BMX track built for the people of the community. This is largely funded by The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust.

Field trip on the Kommetjie Corridor. 2nd Stop – Masi Bike Shop in Masiphumelele run by Solomon ( Morgan) Chikumba who also received funding from our Donor Annette from Swizerland to revamp his business premises. Field trip on the Kommetjie Corridor. 1st Stop – Eyethu Cycles in Westlake run by Meshack Nchupetsang who recently was lucky enough to be funded an upgrade by our Donor Annette from Swizerland. Meshack is known for his expert mechanical skills and runs a small spaza shop from his business. We commend Tony Florence from BEN on a job well done. OCEAN VIEW SECONDARY SCHOOL BICYCLE HAND OVER – MARCH 2018

On Friday, 23 March 2018, we handed over 50 Bike4all bikes to selected children at Ocean View Secondary School , and 50 Qhubeka bikes to the parent of the beneficiary. This is part of the Kommetjie Corridor programme. Many thanks to our donors Annette Andredelaporte and Ken Sturgeon from Rotary Club of Claremont who were able to join us on the day. Bike4all is a joint project with Pedal Power Association.

LOUIS GETS HIS 40TH CONSECUTIVE CT CYCLE TOUR MEDAL!

BEN founder and Chairman Louis de Waal finished his 40th consecutive  CT Cycle Tour. Well done Louis ????.  A special shout out to Louis’ Son Anton for getting him through this amazing achievement.  Well done to our General Manager Tim Mosdell and his wife Paula for completing the cycle tour.

BEN ‘REPAIR’ GAZEBO – CT CYCLE TOUR

BEN will be running its annual repair station at the bottom of Suikerbossie on Sunday 11th March.

Many thanks to Mantelli’s biscuits for supplying some snacks while the cyclists get the help they need to finish the race.
