What we Do

    Our Values

We are a values driven organisation with a focus on equitable transformation and economic empowerment. The following values are important drivers in how we work.
    Sustainability
BEN is a values driven organisation and our work is firmly rooted in the green agenda. This implies strong consultation in the areas we work, and a partnership approach to our interventions. We are also careful to ensure that our activities and actions are consistent with environmental sustainability.

An indirect but very important outcome of our approach is that we are supporting the shift towards sustainable transport very strongly. A further indirect consequence is the fostering of the sense of community that comes with people sharing the streets and being able to move inexpensively.

   Collaboration
Over the past few years, BEN has increasingly worked collaboratively with key strategic partners. In particular, BEN has actively partnered with the Pedal Power Association on a number of key initiatives including our joint #Bike4All programme, and the development and implementation of the ‘Cool Kid on a Bike’ safety curriculum.

Other key strategic partners include the Qhubeka Charity, Rotary Club of Claremont, Pedals for Peace, and Open Streets We have run many successful joint programmes with these important organisations.

    Impact monitoring
Our primary objective at BEN is to have lasting impacts in terms of social and economic empowerment and improving access to opportunity through the use of the bicycle. We believe that it is critically important to ensure that BEN as an organisation is healthy and thriving in order to drive activities aimed at achieving these impacts Consequently, we believe in investing in developing organisational capacity. It is important for us to continuously monitor and evaluate the impacts we make, with a view towards continuous improvement and structuring for delivery. We have a well-developed theory of change which helps us to focus our activities within the context of our planned outcomes. This included robust monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure that our activities continue to serve and align with our key strategic objectives.
