That’s a wrap on Premier Cycle 2025 – and what an unforgettable journey it’s been!
Over the past 5 days, we’ve cycled across the Western Cape, from Plettenberg Bay to Barrydale, bringing the power of bicycles to schools and communities through the Provincial Sustainable Transport Programme.
In total, 206 bicycles were distributed - each one a vehicle of change, connection, and opportunity. From Phakamisani Primary in Plett to our final stop in Barrydale, we’ve supported learners, strengthened community safety through Neighbourhood Watches, and promoted sustainable mobility every step of the way.
Here’s what we achieved: ✅ 121 bikes handed over through partnerships with the Western Cape Government’s Sustainable Transport Programme ✅ Bikes distributed to 15 schools and multiple Neighbourhood Watch groups ✅ Countless smiles, high-fives, and moments of pure community spirit
A heartfelt congratulations to Premier Alan Winde, the Western Cape Department of Mobility, and all the partners, schools, and community champions who made this possible. This wasn’t just about bicycles, it was about building a better, more mobile future for all.
Here’s to the road ahead. #PremierCycle2025 – done and dusted!

Bicycles Driving Change at Vrygrond Peace Garden
At Bicycling Empowerment Network (BEN), we’re passionate about empowering communities through bicycles! Thanks to our joint partnership with the Western Cape Government Mobility Department’s Provincial Sustainable Transport Programme and Pedal Power Association, we were able to provide two bicycles to the Vrygrond Peace Garden in July 2024 - helping them boost efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility in their daily operations.
These bikes have made waste collection, harvest deliveries, and resource pickups faster and more flexible while reducing fuel costs and emissions. Team members Sharon, Deon, and Gideon now have a reliable, eco-friendly transport solution, making their work easier and ensuring a steady supply of fresh produce for the community.
We’re proud to see bicycles making a real difference in sustainable urban mobility and community empowerment!
Let’s keep the wheels turning for positive change!
