6th November 2024 - This week, we had the honour of hosting our incredible partners from Re-Cycle UK, whose dedication to non-motorized transport has empowered so many of our communities. Their generous donations of second-hand bicycles enable our Community Bicycle Empowerment Centers to provide affordable, sustainable transportation and valuable skills to people across the Western Cape.
Our journey began with visits to our community partners in Kuilsriver, Mitchell’s Plain, and Heideveld, where Re-Cycle got to see firsthand the amazing work being done on the ground. The following day, we stopped by Masi Bike Shop in Masiphumelele and then headed to Grabouw to meet Pieter at the Trail's End Bike Hotel —where our guests also explored the one-of-a-kind bicycle museum!
We’re grateful to Re-Cycle for fueling our mission of mobility, empowerment, and sustainability. Here's to many more partnerships, adventures, and a stronger, more connected cycling community!
Woman’s Day in Langa
August 2024 - Celebrating Women’s Day in Langa hosted by the Langa Bicycle Hub!
Despite the cold and rainy weather, it was an incredible turnout at the Monwabisi Sport and Recreational Center for a Women’s Day celebration. In partnership with the Western Cape Government Mobility Department and Pedal Power Association, and as part of the Provincial Sustainable Transport Programme, we proudly handed over 10 bicycles to Thuthula Ngcaca at Project Playground SA.
The event was filled with inspiring discussions led by a panel of amazing women, including Yumna Gihwala-Salie from the Western Cape Government Mobility Department. These conversations were about more than just cycling - they focused on empowering women and supporting small businesses in our communities.
After the panel, we enjoyed some networking, while minor bike services were offered, and many joined in a social ride through Langa. To top it all off, a warm lunch was served, perfect for the chilly day!
Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to make this event a success. Together, we’re not just pedaling for change - we’re driving it!
What a fantastic day in Prince Albert!
1 August 2024 - We’re delighted to share that the Bicycling Empowerment Network, in partnership with the Western Cape Government and Pedal Power Association, spent a rewarding day at the Prince Albert Skills School. Thanks to the funding support of the Western Cape Government, we handed over 10 bicycles as part of the Provincial Sustainable Transport Programme.
But that’s not all! Zane was on hand to provide valuable Safe Cycling tips and hands-on mechanical skills training. This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn how to stay safe on the road and keep their bikes in top shape.
A big thank you to everyone who made this possible, and to Zane for sharing your expertise. Together, we’re making strides towards a more sustainable and knowledgeable community!
